Intelligent Apps’ powered by GenAI to account for 40% of new applications in APAC by 2026

The demand for rapid application development across Asia-Pacific (APAC) is accelerating as businesses strive to stay competitive in a digital-first world. A new IDC InfoBrief, titled Mission-Critical Software, Delivered: Harnessing the Synergy of Low Code and GenAI, sponsored by OutSystems, highlights how AI-powered low-code solutions are empowering APAC organizations to drive innovation and productivity. This digital transformation is set to make “intelligent apps,” enhanced with generative AI (GenAI), central to user experiences and the creation of new use cases.

The report notes that over 60% of applications in APAC are legacy systems, presenting challenges such as inflexible architectures and high maintenance costs. This issue is compounded by a shortage of skilled developers, making modernization a priority for many enterprises. Yet, efforts to transform these legacy systems are often slowed by outdated frameworks and low productivity. In response, 68% of APAC organizations are adopting modern development tools—such as low-code platforms, integrated development environments (IDEs), and DevOps—to streamline this process.

While traditional low-code platforms simplify software development by enabling faster application creation with minimal coding, AI-powered low-code solutions take this efficiency a step further. By automating complex processes and generating intelligent insights, these solutions help businesses achieve greater productivity and inspire innovation. This trend has led 25% of APAC enterprises to prioritize the integration of GenAI into developer tools, with high adoption rates in Australia (25%), India (24%), Japan (26%), and Southeast Asia (23%).

“We are witnessing unprecedented levels of productivity and innovation unlocked for businesses in APAC through the synergistic relationship between GenAI and low code,” stated Mark Weaser, Vice President, of APAC at OutSystems. “In today’s competitive landscape, OutSystems remains committed to empowering APAC enterprises to deliver mission-critical applications at scale and tackle challenges such as talent shortages and dynamic market demands.”
