YouTube’s creator economy fuels the future of marketing and video commerce in Southeast Asia

YouTube’s creator economy is experiencing a remarkable surge across Southeast Asia. This signals a new era in how consumers engage with content, brands, and commerce. With 7,600 creators surpassing one million subscribers, the platform is thriving. Over 77,000 channels have reached 100,000 subscribers. The platform has become an indispensable engine for influence, entertainment, and business growth across Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Singapore.

This thriving community of creators presents an enormous opportunity for marketers who aim to connect with audiences in a meaningful way. YouTube’s reach in the region is unmatched. It has engaged 290 million people in Southeast Asia in 2024, equivalent to 85% of the region’s online population. Globally, the platform draws over 3.5 billion monthly viewers. This solidifies its position as the world’s go-to destination for video content.

Building trust through creator-driven marketing

What sets YouTube apart in the digital marketing ecosystem is the deep trust its creators have cultivated with audiences. This trust is now a defining factor in Southeast Asia’s consumer behavior. Studies show that 85% of viewers in Thailand trust YouTube creators’ content, and 67% in Indonesia do too. Among Gen Z in Indonesia, 60% say they trust brands that appear in creator videos on YouTube. This is significantly higher than on other platforms.

This trust isn’t just a feel-good metric; it directly influences purchasing decisions. More people in Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines say they trust Google and YouTube throughout their buying journey. They trust these platforms more than any other social media platform. For brands, this offers a rare combination: large-scale reach paired with personal credibility, all within one ecosystem.
