Cisco reinvents infrastructure and security for the AI era

At Cisco Live 2025, Cisco unveiled a bold new strategy to meet the demands of the “agentic era.” In this era, autonomous AI agents operate on users’ behalf, expanding the digital attack surface. In response, Cisco is embedding AI-driven security directly into its infrastructure. They are merging zero-trust principles with advanced threat defense.

AI presents both opportunity and risk. While it fuels innovation, it’s also being weaponized by attackers. Cisco’s strategy counters this by making AI the core of its security stack. They empower defenders with machine-speed detection and response capabilities.

Two technologies are central to this vision. The Hybrid Mesh Firewall provides unified policy enforcement across hybrid environments. Meanwhile, Universal Zero Trust Network Access ZTNA enables identity-driven, passwordless access—even for AI agents. These are managed via Cisco Security Cloud Control. It offers centralized visibility and policy automation.

To secure AI agents, Cisco is building a governance framework using several strategies. The framework includes real-time behavioral tracking, delegated access, and the emerging Model Context Protocol. This ensures autonomous agents remain controlled and observable.

Cisco’s integration with Splunk amplifies this ecosystem. Real-time telemetry from Cisco’s security stack feeds into Splunk’s analytics and SOAR (Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response) tools. This enables automated, rapid threat resolution.

Lastly, Cisco is extending its architecture to a new breed of cloud (neocloud) providers and satellite networks. They are combining AI-powered automation with high-bandwidth, secure routing. Consequently, they are bringing us closer to self-managing, AI-driven networks.

In short, Cisco isn’t just adding AI, it’s redefining the foundation of secure digital infrastructure for a hyperconnected, AI-first world
