AI Is Rewriting Education, And Redefining EdTech Marketing

For more than forty years, education researchers have circled the same frustrating truth.

In the 1980s, psychologist Benjamin Bloom identified what became known as the 2 Sigma Problem: students who received one-on-one tutoring dramatically outperformed those in traditional classrooms, often by two full standard deviations. In plain terms, the average tutored student performed better than nearly everyone else. Personalized learning worked. It just didn’t scale.

Hiring a personal tutor for every learner was economically impossible, which meant the most effective model of education remained out of reach for most schools.

Today, artificial intelligence (AI) is beginning to change that equation. Not by replacing teachers or classrooms, but by making individualized support more practical, more affordable, and far more consistent than ever before.

For education and edtech companies, this shift is not just technological. It is strategic. It is redefining what institutions buy, what students expect, and how brands must position themselves to compete.

From static instruction to adaptive learning

For years, digital education meant little more than recorded lectures and automated quizzes. AI has pushed the experience far beyond that.

Modern systems can observe how a student works through a problem, detect hesitation, adjust the level of difficulty in real time, and generate explanations in multiple formats. If a concept doesn’t click, the system can reframe it, slow it down, or provide additional practice instantly.
