For more than seventy years, the formula behind public relations has remained remarkably consistent. Companies created news, communications teams shaped the narrative, and distribution services ensured that journalists received it. Technology made the process faster and more efficient, but the underlying model changed very little.

The launch of PR Newswire’s AI-powered Amplify platform in Asia-Pacific suggests that the model is beginning to change. At first glance, it appears to be another product announcement in an increasingly crowded AI market. Look a little closer, however, and a more significant story emerges. The real story is not the technology itself, but what it says about the changing role of communications platforms. AI is no longer simply being added to existing workflows; it is beginning to redefine them.

The first wave of AI tools focused largely on content creation. They drafted press releases, suggested headlines, summarized reports and generated social media posts. For many communications teams, that alone represented a significant productivity gain.
